6 Survival Hacks For The First Time Movers

29 Nov 2018

Moving is stressful and hard, especially for those who have never done it before. It can be hard to figure out how to move everything efficiently and keep everything protected. The good news is that there are survival hacks that you can use in order to make the entire process easier. Keep reading to see 6 of these!

Take Before Pictures

If you’re renting, you want to make sure you take before pictures of the apartment or house. Most landlords don’t do this, but there are some that will try and charge you or keep your deposit for damages that were actually there before you moved in. If you don’t take photos, there’s nothing you can do and you’ll have to pay for the damages. If you do take photos, though, you’ll have proof that the damages were there when you moved in. This is especially helpful if the landlord decides they want to take you to court.

Contact Rental Firms for Appliances

Another great hack is to contact rental service providers from whom you can hire the large appliances at the time of moving. One such service provider in Australia is Renta Centre who can help you with your last minute appliance requisites. This hack is especially great for first-time movers that have very little income because appliances cost a lot of money and most of the time you’ll have to pay for it at once. If you use this company, though, you’ll be able to make payments every month instead of paying a large chunk of money. The great thing is that you can either make the payments until you actually own the appliances or you can return the appliances and stop paying if you don’t need them anymore. They’ll also deliver the appliances, which takes a lot of stress away!

Use Clothing/Linens to Protect Fragile Items

You can use clothing or linens as padding to help protect any fragile items you have. The best way to do this is to put padding on the bottom, sides and top of the box. You’ll also want to wrap the actual item with one of these materials to give extra protection. This works so well because it will prevent the items from rolling around and breaking!

Take Photos of Electronics

Another great survival hack is to take photos of electronics. One of the most frustrating experiences when moving is not knowing where all the wires go on your electronics. If you take a photo of the back of the electronic where all the wires go, you’ll be able to hook it back up quickly. You’ll know exactly which wire goes to which plug-in port. This is so great because you’ll be able to have your electronics hooked up and running in a short time and you don’t have to waste a bunch of time that could have been used to do more unpacking!

Colour Code Boxes

You can also color code boxes. All you have to do is buy a few different colours of duct tape and put a strip on the boxes. Make sure you write down a little key so you know which colour goes to which room. For example, pink could be the bathroom, blue could be the living room and green could be the kitchen. You won’t have to search the box for writing and you’ll be able to find the coloured tape quickly and put the box in the room it goes. It really cuts down on sorting time!

Use Rubber Bands to Keep Pots/Pans and Lids Together

There are not many things that are more frustrating than not being able to find the lids and pans or pots that go together. A simple and quick fix for this is to use rubber bands to secure them together. You can then put them into the box as one piece. Doing this will also make it possible to add padding to the entire thing to help ensure that your items aren’t going to break.

These are only 6 of the survival hacks you can use and there are so many more out there. You’ll be able to find them by doing a quick internet search. You could also come up with your own hacks to make it a little bit easier. The main goal of these is to just streamline the process and make it as easy as possible.
